Weekly Sports Recap: A Solid Start to the Winter Season

Following last year’s unbeaten season, Varsity kicked off the 2021-2022 campaign with an 84-52 win over Marysville Getchell High School on November 27. The Marauders were a threatening force both offensively and defensively, winning by over 30 points. Varsity will face Edmonds-Woodway High School at home on December 3.


Varsity started the season with a comeback win over Shorecrest on November 31. After trailing 18-36 in the second quarter, Mariner fought back to edge past the Scots, winning 56-53. The Marauders recorded 43 rebounds, 5 assists, and 11 steals. Shooting guard Danaysia Cain (JR) was a sharpshooter outside the three-point line, while point guards Elsie Rudberg (SO) and Kyarria Roussin (FR) were all over the court making steals and recording fast breaks. Varsity will face Nathan Hale High School at home on December 6.


The Marauders started the swim season with a 98-52 win over Meadowdale High School. Seniors Dominic Cruz-Estrada and Matthew Meisner, juniors Itzack Tambauna, Jonathan Kim, and Rogelio Jamero, and freshman Vyron Domingo were key swimmers in the victory. Meisner also competed as the only diver in the 1-meter dive, taking all points for Mariner. The Marauders will face Shorewood High School at home on December 16.


Boys Wrestling had several individuals wrestle at the Mariner Holiday Wrestling Tournament, but have not been able to field and compete as a team at events due to COVID-19.


Girls Wrestling has not had any events due to COVID-19.
