Weekly Sports Recap: A Triumphant End to the Fall Season

BOYS FOOTBALL
Varsity Football beat Jackson High School at home on October 29 by a score of 33-13. Although the Timberwolves’ 239 yards exceeded the Marauders’ 209 total yards on offense, the Mariner defense forced four turnovers, two fumbles, and two interceptions, to help the team end the season on a high.
Cartez Williams (JR) carried the ball 18 times, picking up 89 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Damien Bagley (JR) recorded 54 yards in 11 carries, and Maxim Savchuk (SR) ran the ball four times for 47 yards, both scoring a rushing touchdown.
Savchuk had a field day defensively, registering 4.5 tackles, forcing a fumble, and recovering a fumble for a touchdown.
Jorden Ehling (SO) made 5.5 tackles, two of them being sacks. Isaiah Cuellar (SO) and Tayveon Sy (JR) each made an interception.
GIRLS SOCCER

Varsity ended the year with a win against Evergreen High School on October 27. Despite an evenly-matched battle in the first half, Mariner’s attacking threat in the second half tore up Jackson’s defense to win the match 4-2.
Ashley Carreon (SO) scored a brace, and Nixie Tamayo-Franco (SR) and Aisha Carreon (FR) each scored a goal. Aisha Carreon nearly netted a second, but the goal was deemed offside.

CROSS-COUNTRY
Mariner had four runners that competed in the District 1 Cross-Country Championships on October 30: Julian Nelson-Sellers (SR) and Matthew Meisner (SR) in the 4A Boys race, and Jasmine Jaramillo Cruz (SR) and Xitlalli Salinas-Lopez (SO) in the 4A Girls race.
Nelson-Sellers PR’d with a 17:17.1 5K, placing 48th. Meisner ran a time of 18:40.1, finishing in 75th place.
Salinas-Lopez placed 67th, running a PR of 22:29.2. Jaramillo Cruz also set a PR with a time of 23:02.8, placing 70th.

GIRLS SWIM & DIVE
Several swimmers set personal bests against Cascade High School on October 26. Vivian Huynh (FR) dropped her time from 41 seconds to 40 seconds in the 50 freestyle, and from 1:42 to 1:40 in the 100 backstroke.
Kailee Abendroth (JR) swam a 1:40 100 breaststroke; two seconds faster than her previous time.
Another PR in the 50 free by Miranda Maria-Estrada (SR), who finished with a time of 0:36, beat her previous PR by two seconds.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Varsity’s last game on November 2 ended in a 3-0 defeat to Glacier Peak High School.
Set 1 was 25-15, Set 2 was 25-11, and Set 3 ended in a score of 25-9.

BOYS TENNIS
Boys Tennis played in 4A Districts last week.
