Weekly Sports Recap: Girls Varsity Volleyball Win Highlights Week

Girls Varsity Volleyball beat Granite Falls High School away from home on October 12. The Marauders dominated Set 1, winning 25-15. Despite losing 25-18 in Set 2, Mariner won Sets 3 and 4 by scores of 25-12 and 25-17 to seal the win.

Mariner registered a total of 20 kills, 5 blocks, and 10 aces across all four sets. Blythe Gorham (JR) and Leila Mbaye (SR) led Mariner with the most kills, with Gorham getting nine and Mbaye getting six. Peyton Levy (SR) served 3 aces and Sydney Clarke (SO) made 3 blocks to help Mariner get their fourth win of the season.

Varsity Volleyball will play Lake Stevens High School on Thursday, October 21.


Boys Varsity Football lost their away game against Kamiak High School 41-14 on October 19. Quarterback Damien Bagley (JR) led the Marauder offense, rushing 25 times for 137 yards and scoring two 11-yard touchdown runs. Cartez Williams (JR) rushed for 92 yards in 20 attempts.

Defensive highlights include forcing a turnover on downs on Kamiak’s first drive and a forced fumble at the goal line resulting in a touchback by Maxim Savchuk (SR).

Varsity Football will play Arlington High School at home on Friday, October 22.


Girls Swim & Dive faced off against Kamiak High School on October 14. Christy Li (SR) swam a 5 second PR in the 100 backstroke, dropping her time from 1:36 to 1:31. Vivian Huynh (FR) also swam a PR, swimming a 1:42 100 backstroke; 5 seconds faster than her previous time of 1:47.

Girls Swim & Dive will go against Meadowdale High School on Thursday, October 21.


Mariner Cross-Country teamed up with Kamiak Cross-Country on October 15 to run against Henry Jackson, Everett, and Cascade in the Everett-Mukilteo “Clash.” Julian Nelson-Sellers (SR) lead the Mariner boys, running the 3-mile course in 17.17.1, placing 15th. Xitlalli Salinas-Lopez (SO) came in 13th place in the girl’s race, finishing with a time of 22:28.2.

Cross-Country will travel to the Arlington Ultralight Airport for the Wesco League Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 23.


Boys Tennis played against Lynnwood High School on October 13, losing by a score of 4-3. Joseph Na (SO) and Nickranier Chhum (JR) won their Singles matches. William Tuju (JR) and Jesus Rangel (SR) won their Doubles 1 match.

Boys Tennis will play in the 4A District 1 Tennis Tournament on October 19.


Girls Varsity Soccer played Henry Jackson High School on October 19, losing 7-1 at home. Nixie Tamayo-Franco (SR) scored Mariner’s only goal.

Varsity Soccer will play Lake Stevens High School at home on Thursday, October 21.
