Swimming is a sport at Mariner High school. The swim teams, both boys and girls, are run by the head coach Jennifer Angelos.

Angelos started lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons in college.  She began coaching swim before she got her teaching certification.“I love the sport, and I swam competitively.” She first began her coaching career at Park athletic club in Bellingham and then Columbia Athletic Club in Mill Creek. When she got her teaching job at Mariner, she began to coach the girls swim team and assisted the boys swimming team, “I love coaching, and all of the lessons belonging to a team brings with it.”

She started the swim program over at Kamiak and then came back to Mariner. She has now been coaching over 25 years. “It’s really rewarding to watch athletes really work hard to reach their goals, challenge themselves on a daily basis, and push the limits to bring out their best.”

Many people inspired her to coach. She had been many good coaches from her days in tractors club, high school swim, and beyond. As the daughter of a coach, she grew up with many of the adults in her life being coaches. Her dad coached baseball at the University of Washington and Seattle Pacific. Her dad also had an opportunity to run high school baseball camps and coaching internationally, among other things. Angelos was regularly exposed to the importance of good hard work. She personally loves physical exercise and athletics.  It’s has been a massive part of her life.
She has absolutely loved coaching at Mariner. Their team motto is strength, perseverance, and integrity.
